Abstract

This paper discusses the impact of feminism on women through the Chinese social media and e-commerce platform—Xiaohongshu. Sentiment and themes were categorized for 100 top posts, which ranged from movie recommendations to critiques of women's status and encouragement in self-love. It was realized that there were well-balanced presentations of feminist discourses with large chunks for each category. This indicates active engagement and diversity of ideas on issues of feminism by young Chinese women. The platform has further served as a means through which feminist discourses are publicized and resisted in a manner representative of broader societal attitudes toward gender equality in contemporary China.
